No wonder trying to burn your belly fat can be so frustrating! This phenomenon is primarily associated with hormonal changes in the body and unfortunately is a natural process of aging. 7,8,9 Two of the most frustrating symptoms of this phenomenon are the accumulation of belly fat and muscle loss, which result in a weak, flabby belly. It's no surprise that it's around this age that we stop wearing our favorite form-fitting clothes! Now, it's impossible to reverse aging itself... But it is possible to stop and reverse the unwanted effects of aging. Research has shown that the body has a natural ability to stimulate the production of rejuvenating hormones. 10,11,12,13 It all starts with three mistakes that you must avoid, starting today, if you want to get better results from your workouts. Now, I must warn you... What you are about to read may go against everything you've learned about exercise and fitness. That's because very few people understand how the biology of our body works. Even fewer know which workouts will reactivate the production of hormones that reverse the effects of aging. Below you will learn more about these three dangerous mistakes that you must avoid at all costs if you want to finally lose weight, tone up and look younger. Mistake #1 - Working your abs too much People who want a flat stomach or ripped abs believe that the answer is to do a lot of sit-ups, planks, or any other of the many (and sometimes useless) ab exercises out there. When a client asks me what is the best ab exercise, I often answer with the following: "But if you want to have ripped abs, why are you wasting your time doing these exercises?" The truth is that most people already have ab muscles that are developed enough to show... The problem is that there is a layer of body fat hiding that muscle away. Want proof? Contract your abs and dig your fingers into your belly. Unless you have a significant amount of belly fat, you will most likely feel the ridges and contours of your ab muscles. It is true that some ab exercises can help further develop the muscle itself, much in the same way that the right arm exercises can make your biceps bigger. However (and please take note): ab exercises alone will not help burn the layer of fat that covers the abdominal muscles. 14,15 Why? Simply put: to burn fat, you must burn calories. And according to Men's Health Magazine, it takes up to 22,000 sit-ups to burn just one 1.0lbs (0.4kg) of fat. So, let's say you have 30lbs (13kg) of fat to lose. That means you would need to do at least 660,000 crunches for your abs to begin to show! I hope that this number alone has convinced you that ab exercises should not be your priority if you want to burn belly fat and finally see your abs... By focusing on burning excess fat, you will get results much faster. And thankfully, there is a much simpler and faster way to get to the results you want.
